About

Understanding Neck Pain

Neck pain is often caused by poor posture, muscle strain, or joint dysfunction in the cervical spine. It can range from mild stiffness to pain that limits daily activity and sleep.

Left untreated, chronic neck tension can contribute to headaches and pain that radiates into the shoulders and arms.

Our Approach

How We Evaluate Neck Pain

Your first visit starts with a full history and a physical exam, including orthopedic, neurological, and range-of-motion tests to identify the source of your neck pain. Most neck pain can be evaluated and treated without imaging.

If your symptoms, exam findings, or response to care suggest something that needs a closer look, Dr. Demsky will recommend imaging or refer you to the appropriate physician or specialist.

Seek immediate medical attention (call 911 or go to the ER) for neck pain following significant trauma, progressive weakness or numbness in the arms or legs, or neck pain with fever and stiffness — these can indicate a medical emergency that chiropractic care is not appropriate for.
